The sale was dominated by Lucretia, Artemisia Gentileschi's masterpiece recently discovered in a Lyon collection where it stayed for nearly 40 years. After a long bidding battle, the painting was sold for €4.777.000, multiplying its estimate by 8 and setting a new world auction record for the artist.
The evening was punctuated by several other remarkable results, both for paintings and drawings: €182.000 for Jean-Honoré Fragonard's Education of the dog, €257.000 for Fedot Vasilevich Sychkov's Peasant celebrations in the snow and €591.800 for Cesare Magni's magnificent Virgin and Child.
