Why are the watches delivered by Rolex to the Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise de Marseille from the 1970s onwards so fascinating to collectors?
The collaboration that existed between Comex and Rolex until the early 2000s has no equivalent in the history of professional watches. A true survival tool, the Rolex watches that equipped these elite divers have become particularly sought-after collectors by enthusiasts around the world over the past twenty years.
But what relationship did these elite divers have with their watches? To what extent was the Comex founded by Henri-Germain Delauze not the idea laboratory of Rolex? And finally, how many watches were actually produced with this famous black “Comex” dial?
It is around these questions that those who co-wrote the history of the Comex agreed to come back on their experiences during a conference on January 15 at the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo. On the occasion of her first Watch sale of the year, Marie Sanna-Legrand, Collection Director of Watchmaking and Artcurial Associate Director, brought together all the enthusiasts of diving watches and “Tool watches” for a conversation entitled Comex “the watchmaking legend made in Marseille”.
