Created in 2002, the Design department has firmly established itself in a very dynamic and competitive sector, becoming today the leader on the international market. From the domestic landscape to exceptional furniture, 20th and 21st century designers are featured in nearly ten thematic sales per year.

Since 2014, the department has cemented its position as a major actor in the market with remarkable results, including the world record for a piece of furniture by Jean Prouvé at auction, the Trapèze Table which sold for €1.2m in 2014, and the sale of a Charlotte Perriand “Droit” sideboard for €393,600 in 2022.

Since 2015, Artcurial has also been regularly presenting an auction exclusively dedicated to Scandinavian design, under the leadership of consultant Aldric Speer, thus supporting the development of this market. The successes were not long in coming: from the very first sale, a Model FJ49 armchair known as the “Chieftain” armchair by Finn Juhl was sold for a record price of €262,000.

In 2018, the department turned to Italian design with its first single-designer auction devoted to Ettore Sottsass. Building on this success, Artcurial now offers two sales per year to meet the growing appetite of collectors for this speciality.

Finally, since 2022, Artcurial has been honouring Brazilian design and its greatest figures, including Joaquim Tenreiro and Zanine Caldas. Four new world auction records were set in the first sale for this speciality.
