Presenting a panorama of classical decorative arts from the Haute Époque to the end of the 19th century, including the great styles of the 17th and 18th centuries, the biannual prestige auctions of this speciality are illustrated by fine results such as a torso of Aphrodite sold for €443,000 in 2017, a Louis XVI royal mobilier sold for over €1m in 2020 and a Louis XV Bureau “Dos d’Âne” sold for €721,000 in 2022.

On 13th and 14th December, the Furniture & Works of Art department held its final sales session of the year, auctioning more than 400 lots from prestigious historic provenances. The sales totalled €2,251,556, with 84% of lots sold, the second-highest result for the department since its creation.

On 20th October 2023, in parallel with Paris+ par Art Basel, Artcurial auctioned the Eclectic Eye collection coming from a London apartment, and assembled in over 20 years by discerning collectors. This was a rare, cutting-edge collection that brought together objects and periods: from the great modern artists Berthe Morisot and Pierre Bonnard, to contemporaries Peter Doig and Olafur Eliasson, as well as rare 18th-century furniture and exceptional Chinese and Sèvres porcelain. This collection of nearly 160 lots represented a unique journey into the free and intuitive spirit of collectors.

On 14th and 15th June 2023, the Furniture & Works of Art department held a highly successful sale, achieving a total of over €1.8 million. Including several private collections and lots of solid provenance, the sale showcased major pieces from the European decorative arts panorama, including furniture, silverware, porcelain and sculpture. Reknown international collectors turned out in force for both sales sessions.

Among the works presented in the sale An Apartment overlooking the Seine, the collection of a Parisian amateur on 25th November 2022, an exceptional pair of vases from the Qing dynasty stood out. Extremely rare, these two works bear the sigillary mark of the Qianlong emperor and belonged to Baron James de Rothschild.

On 25th November, Artcurial auctioned the private collection of a Parisian amateur. Among the highlights of the sale, a magnificent and rare pair of flask-form vases from the Qing dynasty, Qianlong mark and period (1736-1795), and previously owned by Baron James de Rothschild at the Château de Ferrières, was presented. Remarkable Chinese porcelains and enamels, elegant 18th century pieces of furniture and works of art and an exceptional set of drawings by Théophile Steinlen completed this unique collection.
