Orientalist Paintings

Orientalist Paintings

Since its creation in 2008, the Orientalist Paintings epartment, directed by Olivier Berman, has become a reference in Europe. It responds to the significant demand from collectors for artists such as Dinet, Majorelle, Girardet, Ernst, Benjamin Constant and Pasini, which has grown considerably in recent years. Since 2014, these names have been joined by Africanist artists, an artistic movement in which European artists such as Quinquaud and Ackein have been inspired by the continent to create their works, and by modern Arab art, with artists such as Gharbaoui, Cherkaoui and Saïd.

The remarkable results obtained in this speciality are the result of rigorous expertise and selection, as well as innovative choices such as the initiation of thematic auctions and travelling exhibitions: Jacques Majorelle and his contemporaries in Marrakech at the Palace Es Saadi in 2011 or A Moroccan passion Pierre Bergé & Yves Saint Laurent collectionat the Palace Es Saadi in Marrakech in 2015.

Since 2019, the department has benefitted from the opening of a branch in Marrakech and now organises its sales at the famous La Mamounia Palace. The inaugural sales were an immediate success and totalled €3.8m. These auction events are extremely popular with an international clientele – 80% are foreign buyers – made up of major collectors, museum institutions and foundations.
