L'atelier Allegretti installé à Modène non loin des grands noms du sport automobile italien comme Ferrari, Maserati et Lamborghini, est célèbre pour sa collaboration dans les années 1960 avec les plus prestigieux fabricants de voitures. Les carrossiers de chez Allegretti réalisèrent de fabuleuses voitures de sport et de compétition, dont la carrosserie de la légendaire Maserati Type 60 et 61 couramment dénommées 'Birdcage'.
Giulio Alfieri, ancien ingénieur responsable du design de Maserati directement responsable du projet 'Birdcage' choisit de réaliser un type de châssis tubulaire. Plus de 200 pièces étaient utilisées, avec un diamètre de 10 à 15 mm. Le résultat final du châssis ressemble à une toile d'araignée complexe, généralement dénommée 'Birdcage' (cage à oiseau).
L'ensemble présenté est le résultat d'une belle collaboration qui a nécessité plus de deux ans de travail. La genèse de ce projet est la découverte d'un châssis ancien qui aurait été réalisé par Allegretti à titre strictement privé. A partir de ce châssis l'idée un peu folle est nait de construire un prototype de master de carrosserie exactement similaire à celui qui avait été produit à l'époque. Le projet a séduit le fils d'Allegretti qui pousuit aujourd'hui le travail de son père au sein de la Carrozzeria Allegretti à Modène, et qui a conservé précieusement les dessins originaux. Cette réalisation a nécessité un travail titanesque. Le résultat final est stupéfiant reprenant parfaitement les dimensions et les lignes originales. Un traitement précis a été apporté aux plus infimes détails : un tableau de bord en aluminium guilloché a été monté avec 3 instruments de bord : deux manomètres de pression d'eau et de pression d'huile Veglia, un compte-tours Jaeger, un volant à trois branches en aluminium avec jante en bois identique à celui qui équipait le modèle original, le capot moteur est ouvrant, des pneus et jantes à rayons avec moyeu de fixation, deux sièges garnis de tissu bleu, une roue de secours, un bouchon de réservoir, grilles d'aération.

The Allegretti workshop, based in Modena and located within a short distance of the great Italian sportscar names such as Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini, is famous for its collaboration in the sixties with the finest Italian car manufacturers. Allegretti coachworks constructed famous sports and racing cars, including the body of the legendary Maserati Tipo 60 and 61, known as the 'Birdcage'.
Giulio Alfieri, Maserati's former chief design engineer and directly responsible for the 'Birdcage'€ project, opted for a chassis made of small spanned tubes. Over 200 individual pieces were used, each with a diameter ranging from 10 to 15mm. The final resulting chassis looks like an ultra complex network, often described as a 'Birdcage'.
The set presented is the result of a beautiful collaboration which required more than two years of work. The origin of this project is the discovery of an old frame which would have been made by Allegretti for private. From this frame the slightly crazy idea was born to build a prototype body master exactly similar to the one which had been produced at the time. The project excited the son of Allegretti, who today pursues his father's work in the Carrozzeria Allegretti in Modena, and who has preciously preserved the original drawings. This achievement required titanic work. The final result is amazing, perfectly incorporating the original dimensions and lines. Precise treatment has been brought to the smallest details: an aluminum dashboard has been fitted with 3 instruments: two Veglia water pressure and oil pressure gauges, a Jaeger tachometer, a steering wheel three-spoke aluminum with wooden rim similar to the one fitted to the original model, the bonnet is opening, tires and spoke rims with fixing hub, two seats in blue fabric, a spare wheel, a fuel filler cap, ventilation grilles.
A true testimony to the automotive history that must join the most important collections.
A very complete file of photographs on the realization will be given to the buyer.
