Les premières Jaguar XK 120 ont été produites de façon artisanale, avec une carrosserie en aluminium sur une structure bois. Leur nombre s'élève à 242 exemplaires, dont 184 à conduite à gauche.
Sortie d'usine le 3 février 1950, cette XK 120 aluminium était de couleur rouge avec sellerie biscuit et capote fauve, comme l'indique le certificat du Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust qui l'accompagne. Elle a été exportée aux États-Unis par l'importateur new-yorkais Max Hoffman et son histoire outre-Atlantique n'est pas connue, mais elle serait apparue à la fin des années 1980 en Suède et aurait été prise dans un mouvement de faillites consécutives à la cessation d'activité de la société de l'un des plus importants collectionneurs de l'époque. Avec d'autres voitures, elle aurait servi de moyen de paiement pour des travaux que le père de l'actuel propriétaire avait effectué dans l'entreprise en faillite.
Ces voitures ont été ensuite importées en Allemagne où certaines ont été vendues et d'autres conservées précautionneusement dont ce roadster XK 120. La restauration a probablement été effectuée à Düsseldorf il y a un peu moins de vingt ans, son propriétaire étant décédé il y a deux ans, cette voiture fait partie de sa succession. Elle était à l'origine équipée d'un moteur haute compression, remplacé ensuite par un moteur SE plus tardif et une culasse dont on ne connait pas l'origine. En très bel état, cette voiture constitue une belle opportunité d'acquérir une version rare du roadster qui a rendu Jaguar célèbre.

The first Jaguar XK 120 cars were produced by hand, with an aluminium bodywork on a wooden structure. 242 examples were manufactured, including 184 of them in left-hand drive.
Out of the factory on 3 February 1950, this particular aluminium XK 120 was in red colour with biscuit upholstery and a tan soft top, as stated on the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate included in the file. It was exported to the United States by New York importer Max Hoffman; its history across the Atlantic is not known but, it would have emerged in Sweden in the late 1980s and would have got caught in a wave of bankruptcies, subsequent to the termination of business activities relating to one of the most important collectors of that era. Along with other cars, it would have been used as a payment solution for the work the current owner's father carried out within the bankrupt company.
These cars were then imported to Germany where some were sold and others carefully stored, including this XK 120 roadster. The restoration was probably undertaken in Dusseldorf just under twenty years ago; as the owner died two years ago, this car represents a part of his legacy. It was originally fitted with a high-compression engine, later replaced by a more modern SE engine and a cylinder head of which we do not know its origin. This car is in very good condition and represents a great opportunity to acquire a rare version of the roadster that made Jaguar famous.
