L' " Ottantatre " fait partie des " étrangetés " qui s'imposent comme des évidences au sein de bureaux d'étude en ébullition. Les ingénieurs ont cherché à définir la cylindrée idéale permettant à une machine de transporter deux personnes avec une consommation faible. Le résultat de ce cahier des charges est cette adorable petite machine de 83 cm3. L' " Ottantatre " (83 en Italien). Son petit moteur 4 temps à cylindre incliné et, boîte 3 vitesses, développe 3,7 ch à 6 000 tr/mn en version " Turismo ". En dépit d'une consommation d'essence faible (1,6 l/100 km pour le " Turismo "), l'" Ottantatre " ne fut produit que deux années à 7730 exemplaires pour le " Turismo " et 370 modèles " Sport ". Admirablement restauré, cet exemplaire est un joli témoignage d'une époque où l'automobile restait inaccessible pour la majorité de la population.

The "Ottantatre" is one of those self-evident "oddities" present within rapidly expanding design offices. Engineers sought to define the ideal displacement for a machine that could carry two people and boast a low fuel consumption. The result of these technical specifications is this adorable little 83cc machine, the "Ottantatre" (83 in Italian). The "Turismo" version of this small 4-stroke engine with inclined cylinder and 3-speed gearbox produces 3.7 hp at 6,000 rpm. Despite its low fuel consumption (1.6 litres/100 km for the "Turismo"), the "Ottantatre" was only in production for two years, 7730 units for the "Turismo" and 370 for the "Sport" model. This wonderfully restored machine is a beautiful testimony to a time when the automobile was only a pipe dream for the majority of the population.
