Il répond à une invitation du commissaire priseur à assister à la vente aux enchères de la Gordini avec laquelle il participa aux 24 Heures du Mans 1950, et exprime ses regrets et sa reconnaissance mais il a un " engagement inévitable ". " Jamais je n'oublierai le noble geste d'Amadeo Gordini quand en 1948, étant spectateur, il m'offrit une voiture sans même m'avoir vu une seule fois concourir."… Il ajoute plus loin : " j'ai couru ensuite (pour lui) toujours gratuitement… ".

He is replying to an invitation from the auctioneer to take part in the auction of the Gordini with whom he participated in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race, and expresses his regrets and acknowledgements but he has an "unbreakable engagement". "I shall never forget the noble gesture of Amadeo Gordini when in 1948, when I was a spectator, he offered me a car without ever having seen me race." … He adds later: "Thereafter, I always raced (for him) for free…"
