€1.4 million for the December Furniture & Works of Art sales
 

The Furniture & Works of Art department ended 2022 on a high note with their Winter sale totaling €1.4 million.

Showcasing a remarkable and eclectic selection of pieces of furniture and works of art, the sale delighted French and international collectors looking for high quality work with prestigious provenances, and amateurs alike in search of decorative pieces. The solid results highlight a market which seems to be more dynamic than a few years ago.

 

An eagerly awaited masterpiece from the sale was the collector sculpture Why Be Born Enslaved, N°2 by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux sold for €102,336, twice its estimate.

 

Rare on the Parisian art market, pieces of Italian cabinetmaking fetched very good results. A pair of Venetian mirrors from the first half of the 18th century, sold for €81,344 ; a games table from the Ducal Palace of Mantua sold for €23,616 and a Neoclassical cheval mirror sold for €12,464, both by the famous cabinetmaker Giuseppe Maggiolini.

The Haute Epoque period also performed well with an exceptional result for a ceremonial pulpit dating from the 16th century sold for €86,592, four times its high estimate.

 

French cabinetmaking displays solid results, underlining our buyers everlasting appetite for prestigious stamps with pieces such as a Louis XVI writing table by Jean-Henri Riesener sold for €43,296, or a set of four Louis XVI fauteuils à la reine stamped by Georges Jacob sold for €26,240.
