Great success for the Antiquities & Islamic Art auction!

On 24th May, the Antiquities & Islamic Art department auctioned the 180 lots in its sale of Archaeology, Islamic Art and Indian Art. In front of a crowded hall and under the hammer of Matthieu Fournier, the sale achieved a total of nearly €1.9M.
A Rare and Near Complete Abbassid Qur'an fetched €406,720, the highest bid of the sale. The Egyptian limestone stelophorous statue of Pendouaou was sold €301,760 after a fierce bidding battle in the auction room and on the telephone.

Among the top lots in this sale were an Illustrated Manuscript of Firdawsi's Shahnama and Bahmanama, Safavid Iran from 17th century and later, which was sold €111,520, as well as two sculptures: A Roman marble figure of the Capitoline Flora, dating from the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D., which fetched €104,960, and a carved sandstone torso of a feminine deity, Khmer art, dating from the second half of the 10th century, which was sold €78,720.
