“I auctioned the soul of a poet in a filled room, limited but explosive, with bids well above estimates. A magnificent tribute to Georges Brassens.”
Hervé Poulain, auctioneer
Offered for sale on September 22nd under the hammer of Hervé Poulain, 22 original manuscripts by Georges Brassens from singer Fred Mella estate total €377,650 including premium, the auction rising to 5 times the estimate, 100% of lots sold and 9 pre-emptions (by the Sète municipal archives, the Sète library and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France). The manuscripts for the song Supplique pour être enterré à la plage de Sète reached €54,600 including premium, more than 36 times its estimate.
“The pleasure of having organised this sale paying tribute to the work of Georges Brassens and his friendship with Fred Mella is doubled by these exceptional results. The enthusiasm of the fans and collectors in the auction room and these 9 pre-emptions demonstrate the deep attachment of the French people and institutions to Georges Brassens, a timeless pillar of French culture that continues to fascinate even today.”
