The Monaco Auction Week sales, which was held from 16th to 19th July 2023 at the Hotel Hermitage in Monte-Carlo, were a resounding success with Artcurial’s Jewellery, Watches, Fashion & Luxury Accessories, Post-War & Contemporary Art and, for the first time, Design departments all shined on the French Riviera. Under the hammers of Stéphane Aubert, Geoffroy Ader and Francis Briest, the 8 successive sales totalled over €14M.
Jewellery dazzles Monaco
The Jewellery department set a sales record since its creation, with a ruby of over 7cts sold for €2.9M. This is the second most expensive ruby in the world in 2023, based on price per carat. Another highlight of the sale was the exceptional 14cts “Comète” diamond ring by Chanel, which fetched €255,840.
The department once again confirmed the success of its traditional prestige sale for collectors and lovers of jewellery and precious stones, with total sales of €6.7M.
Hermès & Luxury Bags: the unmissable event
The Hermès & Luxury Bags department also achieved its highest auction since its creation with the Hermès Kelly Himalaya bag, sold for €127,261.
There were also some fine bids, including a Kelly Doll Picto bag that was fetched for €47,232 and a Birkin Cargo 25 bag that sold for €32,800. The sale achieved a total result of over €733,000.
Important Watches& Le Temps est Féminin (Ladies’ Watches)
The Watches department once again brought together lovers of contemporary and vintage collector's watches with two prestige sales: the Important Watches and Le Temps est Féminin (Ladies’ Watches) auctions.
The Important Watches sale was a great success, with in particular a magnificent Rolex Daytona, "Paul Newman" ref. 6241 fetching €452,640 and an exceptional Tourbillon Souverain, no. 326TN signed by F.P. Journe sold for €308,320. The sale totalled €2.8M. As for the Le Temps est Féminin (Ladies’ Watches) sale, which brought together some sublime pieces, it achieved a total of €520,785. Among the sale's top lots was a 18k yellow gold and diamonds lady’s pendant watch by Cartier that fetched €31,488, almost 4 times its estimate.
The department looks forward to seeing you in January 2024 for a new session of auctions in Monaco, which will pay tribute to the creativity of the House of Piaget, with a new sale entitled Piaget 150 Years.
Monaco Sculptures: another successful edition
The Monaco Sculptures sale, in partnership with the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, renewed its successful formula, generating a total sale of €2.3M. Focusing on leading 20th and 21st century artists, this 4th edition featured a unique monumental work by César entitled Hommage à Eiffel, which fetched €393,600, and a magnificent 1967 sculpture by Gio Ponti entitled Angel, sold for €262,400.
Design Sul Mare: Successful launch for Design department
For the very first time, Artcurial's Design department presented, in Monte-Carlo on 19th July, two exceptional Italian design collections from two seaside resorts: Mykonos and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.
This exceptional sale was a resounding success, with a total of €965,220, notably with a beechwood, brass and linoleum "Conte grande" important table by Gio Ponti, which fetched €72,160, and the splendid suite of five coffee tables from the "Follia" series by the artist Clotilde Ancarani, which fetched €52,480. A grey, brown and black enamelled and clay ceramic mod. 180 vase from the Lava series in 1957 by Ettore Sottsass, from a set of ceramics that once belonged to the famous dealer Mario Tazzoli, also fetched €41,984.
